Frequently Asked Questions
new-logo-0907.jpgQ:What's the first step of joining?
A:

The first step is to schedule a private screening. This is done to:
1. To invite you down to our school for a tour of our facilities
2. To meet some of our instructors
3. To observe a class in progress
4. And work one-on-one with us
Once completed, the instructor will then evaluate the student and if accepted, we can recommend a course or program that is right for you.

jong2.GIFQ: What is the difference between a traditional style school verses other styles of schools?
A:

We pride ourselves with providing a quiet, respectful, and supportive environment.  Fifty percent of what one learns comes from what is taught in class.  The other fifty percent is learned from the class environment.  If you are told to respect your fellow students and to be humble, but the environment is aggressive and all the students have a "tough guy" attitude, then what will the student really learn?  Our students are here first and foremost for themselves, and secondly, to help their fellow student.  Ask any of our instructors or upper belt students and they will tell you the frequent number of times another student or instructor has taken the extra effort to help them with their techniques.

Christopher.gifQ:How many classes should a student attend each week?
A:Studies have shown that for the best results, 2-3 classes a week are recommended.  We believe that the difference between a successful martial artist and an unsuccessful one is simply discipline.  The student that comes 2-3 times a week each and every week will be healthier, better conditioned, and more proficient than the student that practices 7 days a week.  The student that practices 7 days a week will quickly give up, burn out, or become injuredSimply put, the candle that burns twice as bright either lasts half as long or melts.  Class time is very important, but even more important is the time the students give their body to recover and their mind to absorb the techniques.

Q:

Is this something I can do with friends, or my spouse, or how about my whole family?

A:

Absolutely, we highly encourage it. There's an old saying, "Friends and families that kick together, stick together." This has never been truer than today. Where else can you, friends or your spouse, or family get together outside of the home away from the TV and participate in a fun structured activity together? Quality time spent at home will take on a whole new meaning.

ad1006-Meagan.gifQ:Will training at Martial Arts USA make my child aggressive?
A:Absolutely not.  In fact, many parents bring their overly aggressive children to our schools in order for them to release all that energy and to channel and focus it in a positive manner.  Not only do we teach WHAT to do, but also WHEN, WHERE, and WHY to do it. Our programs have also helped the shy student to become more assertive and outgoingIt has been our experience that aggressiveness or shyness is replaced by self-confidence.

pushups1.gifQ:How are classes divided?  Will there be other students like me who have never trained before?
A:The classes are divided by age and level of experience.   In addition, we separate the children from the adults.  We have recognized that different teaching and training methods are needed for each group. The exception to this is families who have the option of bringing their child to either children or adult classes (upon the recommendation of the Master).
